"What are your qualifications as a writer?"
As a freelancer, I've been writing professionally since 1999. I've worked for many different companies -- organizations with diverse needs and varied corporate outlooks. My client list includes Steve Jackson Games, EDS, MCI Worldcom, the Arizona Department of Economic Security, General Motors, and the Phoenix New Times. I have a dozen years of experience in customer service and sales, and personal interests that range from game design and history, to popular science, anthropology, and theatre.
"What kind of assignments do you handle?"
I cover a full spectrum of copy writing. I've written articles, brochures, employee communications, event scripting, instruction manuals, and training materials. I've also had experience with screen adaptation of novels, design documentation for computer games, and patent documentation. My specialty is my ability to write clear, persuasive copy about a wide range of products and services, from the simple to the highly technical.
I am able to quickly grasp complex marketing issues, and to understand the business needs of my clientele. My customers appreciate that I can sit down with IT professionals, artistic directors, project leads, and other specialists, ask intelligent questions, and speak their language.
While I can't predict how many responses my copy will pull for your business, I can guarantee your satisfaction with the work that I do for you.
"How long will it take you to write my copy?"
Ideally, I'd like two to three weeks to work on a typical project. That allows me the time to polish, edit, and revise until I'm happy with every word.
Here in the Real World, I realize that not every client can wait that long. If the job is a rush, and up against a hard deadline, just let me know the date and time by which you need the work completed. If I take the assignment, I guarantee that you will have the copy on your desk (or desktop, or laptop) by this date - or sooner.
No matter the deadline, the copy that I submit will be right. Count on it.
"What happens if we want you to revise the copy?"
Tell me what you want to improve, and what the changes are, and I'll make them. Two rounds of revisions are included in any flat rate fee that we've agreed upon for the assignment, if the revisions are requested within 30 days of your receipt of copy, and are not based on a change in the project after copy has been submitted.
Most clients are very pleased with my copy when they see it. If you are not 100% satisfied, I will revise the copy according to your specific guidelines. If we're still within the original time estimate for the job, revisions three and four are at no charge. If outside that time frame, an additional charge, based on a reduced hourly rate, may apply. For the fifth and following revisions, full hourly rates will apply. Note: it's never come to this point, but I include this clause to limit the "endless rewrite" phenomenon.
"What does it cost to hire you for a project?"
For any copywriting assignment, let me know what you have in mind, and I'll quote you a price. Take a look at my Fee Schedule for a typical range of pricing on a variety of different projects.
Yes, in that my Fee Schedule has an estimated price range for most items, instead of a set cost-per-project. Also, I have been known to offer a slight discount to long-term clients in good standing, for large assignments in particular. I've done work for non-profit organizations where my fees may be reduced, depending upon circumstances. I'm always willing to work within a budget, though the parameters of the work may have to change (an assignment for a multi-page sales letter might become a self-mailer job or a postcard directing consumers to a website). I have also been known to work for payment-in-kind, trading service for service.
I can take a personal or company check, a money order, or via PayPal on this website.
"Sounds great! What do you need to get started on this assignment?"
First, get in touch with me via phone or email, and let me know your needs. I'll require some information about the target audience of the piece. Send me your brochures, catalogues, or any other literature that will give me the background information necessary to write your copy. Don't worry about organizing it - I can do that. If I have any questions, I'll pick up the phone (or open my e-mail) and ask.
If you'd like to get together to go over the job in person, we can do that, too. I'd be delighted to meet with you, schedule permitting, wherever and whenever you wish.
Once I've received a go-ahead and an advance on my fee (where applicable), I'll write the assignment for you. You will receive your copy on or before the deadline date. Remember, the copy is guaranteed to please you. |
